"Hey, Scully, whatcha doin'?" I asked when she answered the phone.

"Making supper."

"Oh yeah? Whatcha makin'?" I asked, lowering my voice.

"Stir fry," she had lowered her voice a little too.

I was sure I could hear her smiling. I had a feeling that this
might be fun, so I kept going. "Oooo," I breathed into the phone.

"Wanna know what I'm putting in it?" she asked softly.

"You know I do," I tried to sound sexy.

"Well, I've already heated up some sesame oil," she practically
purred in my ear.

"Mmm-hmm," I tried to remember that we were talking about food
here.

"Then I added some garlic and ginger."

"Mmmm."

"And just a little bit of onion for flavour."

"Oh yeah," I moaned.

"And now I'm going to add the chicken."

I could hear the chicken sizzling over the phone. "You sizzle,
baby," I whispered.

She giggled. I couldn't believe it. I had made Scully giggle.

"Before I add the rest of the vegetables, I'm going to let this
simmer for a while to make sure the chicken is cooked," she
continued, her voice softer than I had ever heard it before.

"You like to let things simmer, don't you, Scully?" I teased.

"That way it stays moist and juicy, Mulder," her voice had become
sultry.

"I like it moist and juicy," I almost choked.

"I thought you might," she giggled again.

I was really enjoying this. "Now that you know how I like it, tell
me how you like it, Scully."

"Not so fast, Mulder, I haven't added the vegetables yet. Don't
rush me. If you rush me, I'll cook the vegetables too quickly and
they'll be limp. I definitely don't like limp, Mulder. Firm, I
much prefer firm."

"God, Scully, I love it when you talk cooking."

"Where are you, Mulder?" she asked me, still giggling.

"Pulling up in front of your building," I told her.

"Good, because I'm ready, " she said and hung up the phone.

I was at her door in a flash. I knocked before I let myself in.
"It's me," I called. "And I'm ready too."

Scully came out of the kitchen carrying two plates. She handed
one to me.

"How did you know to make enough for me?" I asked, once I was
settled on the couch.

"You show up for supper so much, Mulder, that I always make
enough for two now"

"What if I don't show up?"

"Lunch," she said with her mouth full.

"Ah, I've often wondered about the disparities between your
lunches."

I dug in and finished my food quickly. When I looked up, Scully
was smiling at me.

"Do you like my cooking, Mulder, or are you just eating to be
polite?"

"I'm only polite once, Scully. If I didn't like your cooking, I
wouldn't drop by at supper time."

"It would've been nicer if I hadn't had to ask for the
compliment."

The puppy dog face I was trying to give her didn't seem to be
having much effect. "I'm sorry, Scully. I always think you know
what I'm thinking."

"S'okay, Mulder. Sometimes a girl just likes to hear the words."

The snort was out before I could stop it.

"What?" she looked confused.

"Well, when I say the words, you just brush me off."

She stood and took my plate. "Saying my ass looks great or
asking me to take my jacket off so you can enjoy the view doesn't
count, Mulder."

"Why not? Wait--that's not what I meant."

Scully was already heading into the kitchen with the plates. I
jumped up to follow her. She was filling the sink. I grabbed a
dishtowel to help. She turned to face me.

"Believe it or not, Mulder, and if you ask me to repeat this in
front of anyone, I'll deny it, but I do find your off colour
remarks kind of flattering. I guess I'll take whatever scraps you
throw my way."

"Just a damn minute here," I protested. "You'll take whatever
scraps I throw you? When have you ever thrown me a scrap?"

Scully arched an eyebrow at me as she set a plate in the
dishrack.

"Well?" I dried the plate while I waited for her to answer.

"I'm not sure what you're asking me. Why don't I compliment you
more often?" She was filling up the dishrack as we spoke.

"More often? You never compliment me. You always criticize my
clothes, my ties, my hair." I put the plate away.

"I compliment your work all the time, Mulder."

"I seem to recall more seconding guessing than complimenting."
I had to dry quickly to keep up with her.

"Mulder," she sighed, "You are very good at what you do. I'm
proud to be your partner."

"So, I'm good at what I do, I just look hideous while I'm doing
it?"

"Well sometimes your ties are awful, Mulder, but I don't think
you're hideous," she smirked at me.

I put a hand to my heart. "Dear Diary; Today Agent Scully said I
wasn't hideous."

"Shut up, Mulder," she laughed as she drained the sink. "Would
you like some coffee?"

"Yes, please. Have I mentioned that you make the best coffee?"

"Stop it, Mulder," she giggled.

"Dear Diary; Today I made Agent Scully giggle."

"Truce, okay, Mulder? I'll try to be more complimentary if you
will stop with that 'Dear Diary' thing," she held out her hand.

"Okay, truce," I acquiesced, shaking her hand.

After pouring the coffee, Scully carried it to the living room,
put mine on the coffee table, and sat down in the corner of the
couch with hers.

"So...what do you want to do tonight, Mulder?"

I shrugged. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Scully
looking at me as she sipped her coffee.

Grabbing the remote off of the coffee table, I turned on the TV
and began to surf through the channels. Scully was still looking
at me.

"Will you stop that?"

"Stop what?" she asked innocently.

"Stop staring at me."

"I was just looking at you," she replied evenly.

This made me feel very uncomfortable.

"You're very good-looking, Mulder," she continued.

"Scully!" I think I might have blushed.

"Well, you are," she smiled.

"You're just saying that because I said you never compliment me,"
I accused.

"No, I not," she contradicted, "I just decided to really look at
you. I mean, I've always thought you were good-looking, but I never
allowed myself the luxury of really looking at you."

"The luxury?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

"Mmm" she said, taking another sip of her coffee. "I generally
try not to go where angels fear to tread."

"What?" Now I was just confused.

"Which of the Gunmen is the best looking, in your opinion,
Mulder?"

"Ug, Scully, I never look at the Gunmen like that. They're guys--
friends," then the light went on. " Oh, so I'm one of the guys?"

"That's the way I try to keep it, Mulder. In spite of all of the
innuendo, I try to keep our relationship platonic. I'm not always
entirely successful, but whenever I've tried to take our
relationship to the next level, it has always turned out badly."

"When did you ever try to take our relationship to the next
level?" I couldn't hide my surprise.

She took another sip of her coffee. "Well, the first time I
thought it was you trying to take it to the next level."

"Eddie," I nodded.

"I thought at that point you would have realized that I was open
to the possibility of a relationship with you. But you didn't
give me any indication that you were interested in me that way."

"Scully, I..." I wanted to explain, but she cut me off.

"I'm not finished yet, Mulder. Then after you read my journal
when I was first diagnosed, you still didn't make any
indication."

I looked at my feet.

She took a deep breath, "Then, when we were on our way to that
team building seminar and you stopped to investigate the moth men,
I brought wine and cheese to your room..."

I stole a glance at Scully. Her eyes were shining and her cheeks
were flushed.

"Then in your hallway, before the bee stung me, I thought that you
finally felt the same way I did. But after you rescued me things
went right back to status quo."

"Status quo, my ass, Scully," I had to defend myself. "We were on
grunt detail and besides, I told that I loved you."

"From your hospital bed, after nearly drowning. I read your chart,
Mulder. They were pumping so many drugs into you, I'm surprised
that you didn't confess your love to Langly."

"I knew exactly what I was saying and who I was saying it to."

"Fine. Shall I mention Diana?" Scully raised an eyebrow at me.

I cringed. "She just goes to prove that I don't exactly have a
stellar record in the relationship department."

"Well, it was enough to throw me off, Mulder. But, if I'm
anything, I'm loyal. Good old loyal Dana, you can kick her, but
she keeps coming back for more."

"Scully..." she was breaking my heart.

She shook her head, "New Year's Eve, Mulder. I thought that
maybe...but still nothing."

"Scully, I never meant to hurt you." I reached for her hand. She
startled me by snatching her hand away from me.

"Scully? What's the matter?"

The tears that had been collecting in her eyes started to slide
down her cheeks. "There may be a lot of things that I'd like from
you, Mulder. But pity isn't one of them."

"Jesus Christ, Scully. I don't feel sorry for you. I feel sorry
for me. I want you to take pity on me. Please give me another
chance. I love you so much! It's just that.."

"What?" she was looking me straight in the eye. Her cheeks were
still wet, but she was no longer crying.

"Every time I even think about getting close to you, something
awful happens to you. Your abduction, your sister, your cancer,
Emily, Antarctica, it sort of scares a guy, Scully."

"You thought about a relationship with me before my
disappearance?" Her eyes were wide.

"Yeah," I admitted.

"I had no idea," she said quietly.

Moving closer to her, I wiped the tears off of her cheeks.

"Well, that's when I thought that we might be able to have a
relationship, but you've been starring in my fantasies since you
dropped your robe for me on our first case."

"You're not serious!"

"Totally. I've been in lust with you since the beginning. I fell
in love with you shortly thereafter," I confessed.

She sat there on the couch nodding her head slowly. "Will you
excuse me for a minute, Mulder?"

"Where are you going?" The panic in my voice was embarrassing.

"I just need to blow my nose," she smiled.

I sat on the couch and looked at my hands. I was surprised to see
that they were shaking. I couldn't believe that I'd be this
nervous. We knew each other so well. I didn't have anything to
worry about. I knew now that Scully loved me as much as I loved
her. I looked at my hands again. They were still shaking.

The bathroom door opened and I heard her soft footfalls as she
came back to the living room. She stopped in front of me.

"May I?" she gestured towards my lap. I opened up my arms. She
sat on my lap and put her head on my shoulder. I slid my arm
around her waist. I had never felt anything so right before in
my life. "I think we should have had this conversation a long
time ago, Mulder," she sighed.

"A long, long time ago," I agreed.

"Do you think it's too late?" her voice was very quiet.

"God, I hope not. Not if I have any say in the matter."

"You're not worried that something awful might happen?"

"I'm terrified, Scully, but I'm more afraid of losing what we
have."

"Then make love to me, Mulder."

Not needing to be asked twice, I picked her up and carried her to
the bedroom. I set her down on the floor beside the bed. "I'd like
to kiss you first, if that's okay?"

"You've already kissed me," she pointed out.

"I mean really kiss you," I explained as I leaned in. Unlike our
kiss on New Year's Eve, Scully's mouth opened to mine immediately.
I always thought that if this ever happened, it would be frantic
and we would be tearing each other's clothes off. I have never
been more wrong.

This kiss was deep and sensual as we explored each other's
mouths. There was a lot more of Scully that I wanted to explore,
but I surprised myself for not rushing things. I was enjoying the
kiss far too much. Her hands were the first to move.

After she tugged my t-shirt out of my jeans, she slid her hands
over my chest. I followed suit, but I did her one better and
pulled her shirt over her head, forcing us to break the kiss. I
tossed her shirt onto the floor. She pulled my head down to kiss
me again. I let my hands play over her breasts, delighting in the
fact that her nipples hardened as I did.

As we continued to kiss and caress each other we slowly removed
each other's clothes. When Scully's warm skin was pressed up
against me, her mouth was no longer enough for me. I wanted to
taste more of her. I picked her up again, put her on the bed and
lay down beside her.

Leaving her mouth, I slowly kissed my way down to her breasts. She
gasped when I took a nipple into my mouth. When I was sure that
I was completely familiar with that breast, I moved to the other
and gave it the same attention. I was now settled between her
legs. Scully's hands were in my hair and she kept pushing her hips
up against me.

When I left her breasts and began to kiss my way down her belly,
she stopped me, lifting up my head.

"When do I get my turn?" her sultry voice sent a jolt right to
my groin.

"If I'm not mistaken, Scully, this is your turn."

She chuckled, "That's not what I meant and you know it."

"Well, Scully, if I have my way, you will have plenty of chances
to have a turn. Maybe even later tonight," I waggled my eyebrows
at her.

She laughed again and put her head back down on the pillow. It
didn't me long to find out that, as I had suspected, everything
about Scully was delicious. Scully rewarded my efforts with the
most sensuous sounds I have ever heard. Her moan when I slid one
finger into her made my stomach flip-flop. When I began to kiss
her clit, her sigh, for lack of a better word, almost made me
come. Even though I was trying to take things slowly, it wasn't
long before her body went taut and I felt her clit pulse against
my tongue. The sound of my name on her lips as she climaxed will
be forever imprinted onto my brain.

I stayed between her legs until her shudders finally subsided.
Kissing my way back up towards her mouth, I paused briefly to
sample her breasts again. I didn't want to forget how her nipples
felt against my tongue.

"C'mere, Mulder. I want to kiss you," she lifted my head up.

Moving up to kiss her, ensured that my cock would be pressed
against her opening. As we kissed, she pulled her knees back and
I slowly began to slide into her. When I was completely inside of
her I had to stop to catch my breath. I always knew it would feel
incredible to be inside of Scully, but I was not prepared for the
wave of emotions that flooded me. I was babbling like an idiot.
She quieted me by pulling me into another kiss and whispering in
my ear.

"I love you, too, Mulder. I love you so much."

Her words brought me back into focus and I began to stroke. She
moaned and threw her head back. I wasn't expecting her to come
again but as I increased my pace there was no mistaking the tug
and pull of her internal muscles. She pulled me over the edge with
her. The next thing I knew she was stroking my hair and whispering
to me.

I rolled onto my side, pulling her with me. We kissed softly
again.

"I'm a little sleepy, Mulder. You?"

"Are you giving me permission to nod off?" I laughed.

"No, I get sleepy too, you know. And then after we have a nap,
it'll be my turn, right?"

"What exactly do you mean by your turn?"

"My turn to explore," she said softly, snuggling against me.

Right, like I was going to get any sleep now with the thought of
Scully's lips and hands exploring my body. I was content to just
to hold her gently and watch her while she slept peacefully in my
arms. If this is where angels fear to tread, then more pity the
angels.
